Thanks for this perspective. So often this issue is framed incorrectly as a progressive vs. conservative fight. There are many lefties who disagree with the Democrats on keeping secrets from parents.
I live to reframe this for my progressive colleagues and friends. My lived experience as a hard left progressive who was witness to the gender identity coercion and contagion in my own son gives people pause.
As a lifelong democrat, I have been forced to pause and ponder the meaning of my progressivism in the face of transgender obfuscation and lying. If we abandon our principles of protecting children and respecting scientific truth and objectivity over ideology, what are we worth?
Everything needs to be open for deep discussion and analysis. We have to be honest in our pursuit of knowledge, and we must be able to listen to every uncomfortable truth, particularly if we believe that there is an objective truth to be discerned. Too many people I talk to have never heard any other perspective or experience until they hear my stories and I share articles and research with them. The bubbles we live in are airtight, and this alone should encourage people to voyage across - the discovery of the “other” continues and the left has built up a wall of incurious obfuscation. So, now “question everything” has taken on more urgency.
